other than the web, what accessible clients exist for t those of us running jaws?
I'm running Windows XP and JAWS 14.
i know there's a client produced by the same people who make QCast. aren't there others though? if so what are they, and ware can i get them?
i've never used twitter before and though i do know how to use my jaws curcer to go around the screene to click things, i'd rather not.
thanks!
there are lots of accessable twitter clients out there. One that I use is called the qube. you can get it from http://www.quartzprojects.co.uk. It is very accessable to the blind, and all of it's commands are done by hotkeys, so there's no need to open a web browser at all. It works with jaws, as well as NVDA. It will also use sapi if you don't have a screen reader running. Hope this helps.
I use the qube, as well, and love it.
I think the Qube is the most commonly used client for Twitter. When I first got it it was weird, because I wasn't used to using something that did not open up in a window and I was so accustomed to pressing alt tab to get to an open window for everything else. What's also nice about the Qube is it is free, unlike many other Twitter clients. That is probably your best bet.
I have to agree with the others; I don't use Twitter often, but when I do, I use The Qube.
i know of two other people on here that use the qube too, so sounds like tha'ts the option to go with.
Yes, another for the Cube over here. :)
anthony and raaj also use the qube.
so if i have any problems i know ware to post. *smile* Thanks guys!
now i did install the qube, but let's say i decide i'd rather use somethign else instead?
what other options exist.
i do like the idea of things being in a window.
There's a new one out called Chicken Nugget. It's made by the same guy that made Qwitter, (which, the Qube is basically Qwitter under a different name.) I use the Qube, so have not had experience with Chicken Nugget, but I know some who like it. There's also one called Tween, at least I think that's how it's spelled, but I have absolutely no experience with that one.
If you want to use chicken nugget, be prepared to pay. I think it's something like 15 dollars, which in my and many other people's opinions is a ridiculous price for clients of this sort. I understand the guy has to make some sort of proffit but that is pushing it.
if it will be updated and new features added, I will def pay because these things like the qube seem to exist and never get new features.
i'm not sure what Continuum's twitter client is called but i heard they are coming out with one as well.
Hmm, I'm have to check out this cube thing. I use the web currently but it's slow because the page keeps refreshing or something. Will the Cube work on an old XP machine? Also, if it isn't an open window, how does one get to it?
One more for the qube. I've tried chicken nugget and thought it was cool, but the thought of paying $15 for a twitter client when I could find one that worked just as well for free seemed a little ridiculous to me.

When you download the Qube, I believe it also comes with a manual with instructions and a list of the commands. Basically, most of the commands involve pressing control+windows with a letter, or shift+control+windows with a character. I don't have a for sure answer about the XP, but I don't see a reason why it would not work on there.
I also believe there is a mobile site for Twitter like Facebook, but I'm not sure what the address is, if it doesn't work on your computer.
I have an old XP machine, and the Qube works just fine on it. The ReadMe is very thorough, and very useful and detailed.
The mobile site for twitter should just be m.twitter.com
yes, that's what the mobile site is.
Duh I should have known that, I was writing that when I first woke up so...
Cool, thanks for the info on Cube. I don't know why I've never thought to try m.twitter.com. Silly me.
Hi.
I am using chicken nugget myself and i preordered it about a month ago even it's not officially released yet.
I think now it is ready for production and i have got the impression that it is going to be released in the following days.
You can get it from http://q-continuum.net/chicken_nugget/
For now there are no limitations but each beta has got an expire date so somebody cannot use it for ever.
And also when a new version comes out it auto updates automatically.
I think 15 dollars is a very reasonable price. You only pay once and you get updates for ever.
On the other hands social eyes from gwmicro which is a facebook client they want 50 dollars per year.
And they don't even have a demo available so i find this pricing very rediculous.
The qube is good but there are some buggs that were existing even when the program was called qwitter and they don't bother to fix it. The only thing the developper does at this point is just to try and keep up with the api changes so the client continues to work.
No bugg fixes, not new features or anything els.
Chicken nugget now is able to do things that the qube cannot.
For example editing twits, get new twits in real time, get search results in real time and many more.
Also the chicken nugget has got a user interface as well as global commands so it could be used from visually impared users or even sighted users as well.

the tube is okay but it really has a lot of issues here and there. Lots of bugs, and it can be a bother sometimes with updates, and continual bugs, so I just gave it up. I just use twitter on mac and iPhone. no problems here anymore for Rach! Yay! I got tired of troubleshooting my tube so I just said done with it!
the qube since the last update doesn't have a lot of bugs, and it can do most things on twitter. I also use twitter on my I phone as well and like it.
One of the things I like about the qube besides of course no open windows, is the ability to use soundpacks. I use a sound pack called trek twit, which is star trek sounds. I got this before the original qwitter site went down.
I'll stick with my command line client called ttytter. http://floodgap.com/software/ttytter/. When running Chromium/Chromevox, the regular Twitter site is very usable. I miss easychirp.com for those times when I want a no-frills, no hassles web interface.
